Germany will host Euro 2024 in the summer. International managers have set their eyes on some of the top talents of their nation. Germany’s manager Julian Nagelsmann has a huge task in his hand for the upcoming tournament. His team will be playing at home and aim to win the tournament with the backing of the home support.
The manager will be choosing the top 23 stars from his country to represent the hosts. One player who is a part of the selection criteria is an experienced midfielder from Brighton. Pascal Gross has been a big part of Seagulls’ plans since 2017 and recently made his international debut. Under De Zerbi, Gross has shown his other side of the game. After some recent call-ups, the 32-year-old has built more confidence. Here is a look at some of his stats that show why Pascal Gross deserves a call for his first major international tournament.
Versatility on the field
Gross is a centre-mid, who can also play as an attacking midfielder and as a wing-back on a few occasions. This season he has made 31 appearances for the Seagulls in all competitions. These include 23 in the Premier League, six in the UEFA Europa League and two in the FA Cup. The midfielder has spent most of his playing time in the middle of the field this season.
The German international has made around 1.36 progressive runs per 90 minutes and has a dribble success rate of 45.5%. Most of these runs come down the flank and start from the middle of the field. All dribbles have been attempted in the final third.
Creative side
This season, Gross has created 75 shot-assist chances. Per every 90 minutes, the German creates 2.2 shot assist chances. The numbers are high due to Gross’ ability to deliver in set pieces. Gross attempts 71.45 passes per 90 minutes and has an accuracy rate of 89.9%. These include 7.85 passes to the final third and four to the opposition penalty box. Despite creating these many shot assist chances from set-pieces, the assists have been created from open play.
In addition to this, the player has scored five goals. Gross averages 1.5 shots per 90 minutes and 42% of them have hit the target. Most of these shots have been attempted from outside the penalty box and a maximum of these have been blocked by the opposition players.
In addition to this, the player can make counter-pressing recoveries and dangerous ones as well. This shows that the player can press high on the ball and that is what a top side would want.
Pascal Gross will look to score and create more goals. The 32-year-old has a chance to represent his country in a major competition.
