West Ham United are offering Borussia Dortmund defender Dan-Axel Zagadou a four-year deal. Free agent Dan-Axel Zagadou remains a free agent after leaving Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season and continues to ponder his next move in the game. After leaving Borussia Dortmund this season, the highly touted defender is still a free agent. He has long been on Manchester United’s radar as one of the Bundesliga’s best young defenders. Indeed, he is a player who continues to pique Erik ten Hag’s eye as he looks for methods to boost the Red Devils. However, according to French media, West Ham is close to signing the 23-year-old.
Their primary competitor, though, is Lyon, which also offers a comparable plan. Peter Bosz, the coach of the Ligue 1 club, is familiar with the player from his brief stint in command of Dortmund. However, the Hammers are now leading the way for Zagadou. They are allegedly paying the centre defender more than Lyon. As a result, his deal is anticipated to be completed in the following days. Zagadou will be West Ham‘s ninth summer acquisition and the club’s third central defence addition. He goes to the London Stadium with Thilo Kehrer and Nayef Aguerd.
Zagadou, who was born in the Paris neighbourhood of Creteil in June 1999, has long been considered one of Europe’s top defensive prospects. The defender began his career in the youth system at his home club, US Creteil, before joining Paris Saint-Germain at the age of 12. Zagadou agreed to a five-year deal with Borussia Dortmund in June 2017 after recording nine appearances for their B squad. The 22-year-old has represented France up to the Under-21 stage and, despite stiff competition, is largely expected to make his senior debut in the coming years.
Zagadou, a natural centre-back, is equally at home on the left side of the defence. In reality, he suffers a lot as a left-back. However, Zagadou has flourished as a left centre-back in a back three, and his positional adaptability would appeal to the Hammers. Standing at 6ft 5, Zagadou is a strong figure who should have little trouble adjusting to the Premier League’s toughness. The defender, gifted with exceptional levels of calmness, is at ease on the ball and influencing play from the heart of the defence. He excels in aerial duels with opposing strikers, preferring one-on-one clashes and dominating his opponent. The Frenchman is an astute defender who takes advantage of space with press-baiting, a directed first touch, and clever body placement.
