If there is a better news that could lift the spirit of Manchester City fans right now, it would be knowing their key players are back from injury.
That day seem to have come with Manchester City receiving a triple boost. Earlier on Monday, the official Manchester City twitter account posted a picture showing Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne and John Stones all in training
The trio have missed out on their international call-up due to injuries, with reports on Sergio Aguero likely to be injured while De Bruyne sustained a groin injury before the break. As for Stones, the Independent had reported last month how the centre-half picked up a muscle injury and was added to the injury crisis at the Etihad which has proven to be very costly for Pep Guardiola’s side in recent weeks.
With the recent slip at home against Wolves which left them eight points behind Liverpool on the league table, the pressure has become even more to respond and ensure that they catch up and close the gap considerably.
The void in defense
Using the match against Wolves as a reference, it shows how much Manchester City misses John Stones and Aymeric Laporte in the defense. The match against Wolves showed a Manchester City defense that lacked creativity.
Fernandinho’s valiant efforts were for nothing and Nicholas Otamendi’s attempt to throw himself into challenges backfiring shows Manchester City’s defense in a clownish display of ineptitude.
As Wolve’s keen counter attackers exposed City’s leaking back, it was obvious who the Cityzens missed more. The sidelined centre-backs John Stones and Aymeric Laporte and also the missing midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne.
Who is likely to bounce back soon?
Manchester City should be looking at having John Stones back in the squad as TransferMarkt puts his recovery date on the 22nd of October. With that in mind, the defense might be beefed up in their coming league game, a good time for the team to try to close up the gap between them and Liverpool and gradually take the lead.
Also with Manchester City’s official twitter account posting a picture of Sergio Aguero, we can look forward to seeing him get back on the squad in the coming weeks.
Manchester City face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday evening, and although the update is good news in that De Bruyne, Aguero and Stones are all training, it’s unclear at this stage if that means they’ll be fit and in contention to face the Eagles.
Time will tell whether or not that’s the case, but for now, it’s a positive sign and they’ll hope the trio can make their comebacks sooner rather than later in order to give them a timely boost as they look to bounce back and try to put pressure on Liverpool to force a slip up.
