In recent days it has been rumoured that Brazil superstar Neymar is ready to snub a return to Barcelona in order to make a big-money move to the Premier League. With only a few clubs who can meet the valuation and his hefty wage demands, Chelsea have been identified as a club who could secure his services.
The sources coming from Spain have stated that the Blues are ready to splash £210m to secure the deal which would see Neymar crossing the channel and moving to West London. It would see Chelsea spending the entire sum that they recouped from the sale of Eden Hazard to Real Madrid plus a lot more. Everyone knows that Chelsea are currently under a transfer embargo which has seen no investment in the squad, but so far it seems to be a good sign.
Seeing other big clubs in the Premier League lose their way in the early stages of the season, Chelsea seems to be going strength to strength and that is down to Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard and his youthful side.
The question is if Neymar was to move to Stamford Bridge, would it be the ideal signing or would it be a disaster waiting to happen?
From the club’s point of view, sticking to a youthful set-up is crucial as this crop of young players seem to prove that they are ideal for the club moving forward. However, if Chelsea were to spend big on a major signing, instead of Neymar the club should go all out and sign England youngster Jadon Sancho.
The Nineteen-year-old English superstar has already proven his worth at an elite level playing at Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga. As it so happens, Sancho is a Chelsea fan and would have looked up to players like Lampard when he was in his prime at Chelsea.
Alongside being close friends with another England youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi, the Blues are now employing a youth philosophy that might persuade Sancho to move to West London. Following the sales of Hazard and Alvaro Morata, Chelsea will have enough funds for a high profile purchase like Sancho.
If Chelsea were to have Sancho and Hudson-Odoi on both flanks, the sound of that combination is an exciting one for the club as well an exciting one for the England national team. The Blues will have an abundance of English internationals within the side and will dominate Gareth Southgate’s squad at the Euros and the Qatar World Cup in 2022.
There is no doubt that Neymar is one of the best footballers on the planet and has proven this for several years at elite clubs. If the move were to happen (which is highly unlikely) it would mean one of the current Chelsea players would lose their starting place. However, Jadon Sancho is a different scenario. He is younger and has so much more to develop in his natural game, he would prove to be a much better acquisition than Neymar and most Chelsea would love to see him at the club.
But, as I have mentioned, if he Neymar came to the club, it would come to a substantial fee, where Sancho is worth half of that fee.
