Leipzig v Manchester City – UEFA UCL Betting Preview

Leipzig Summary

RB Leipzig began this month full of confidence going an impressive run of 18 unbeaten matches before the recent defeat to Union Berlin.

Marco Rose’s team bounced back with a confidence boosting 3-0 win away to Wolfsburg, and so face the English champions in excellent mood and pretty close to impeccable form.

Leipzig won 2-1 against Manchester City in last season’s UEFA Champions League and will hope for a repeat to give them a first leg advantage.

The win over City in that group stage match handed them their fourth European success against a Premier League club, so they will not fear Pep Guardiola’s side here.

The Germans come into the first leg with several injury absences. Spanish international Dani Olmo is out with a muscle injury as well as Peter Gulasci, and Abdou Diallo.

Olmo is going to be a noticeable absence for his high work rate and good technique. They expect to work hard without the ball and so the tall Spaniard is a big miss.

RB Leipzig will play a 4-4-2 with Werner and Andre Silva up top.

Manchester City Summary

Manchester dropped two disappointing points on the weekend against Nottingham forest. It was a bitterly disappointing result that put a dent in the feel-good factor they’d generated after the win against Arsenal the days before.

The current title holders of England probably had one eye on this game, hence not getting the win in Nottingham. Because although they will not publicly admit it, the UEFA champions league is the one trophy they want to win this season.

Despite potentially seismic punishment coming their way because of serious charges for financial misconduct, Manchester City’s mood and focus seems fine on the pitch.

Guardiola’s side travelled to Germany without any new absences or injury concerns.

It is only John Stones who is in some doubt about playing due to fitness but as ever with Guardiola, some rotations can never be ruled out.

What seems near certain considering the importance of the game, key men Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne will begin.

Betting Analysis

Looking at the 1×2 market first. The favourites for the game is Manchester City @ 1.76. The draw is a decent result for both teams, that is @ 3.90. The home side would almost certainly need to get the win in the first leg to keep the tie in the balance, Leipzig is @ 4.35 to win.

Moving onto the Asian handicap betting for this contest. Manchester City will be giving away a -0.75 start @ 2.02. The visitor would be delighted to win the game and won’t feel the necessity to go for the second goal once ahead. Even still, I’d be closer to City winning by two goals than the Germans getting a draw. Leipzig +0.75 is @ 1.85. Easy pass on this.

Looking at The Under/Over goal betting last of all where the line is set at 2.75. No preference here.
