Chelsea v Dortmund – UCL Betting Preview
Betting Analysis
Looking at the 1×2 market first. Chelsea has looked flat and without intensity often this season, but their star men will surely come to life in a competition which puts them on the World stage.
The host needs to win to have any chance of progressing and based on the first leg which they dominated but didn’t finish, the view is that they’ll at the every least, take this to extra time. Chelsea to win is @ 1.90 and a strong preference.
Dortmund is @ 4.50 and the draw is @ 3.70. Both of these outcomes would see Chelsea go out.
Moving onto the Asian handicap betting for this contest. This is arguably one of the trickier ties to call involving EPL clubs. Chelsea is a -0.5 favourite @ 1.88.
Dortmund +0.5 @ 1.99 are in amazing form and have scored the opener in their last eight competitive outings. If they manage that here then it gives them a great chance to at least avoid a loss and progress.
If odds don’t change then Chelsea backers should head to the 1X2 market for better value.
Looking at The Under/Over goal betting last of all, where the line is set at 2.5. Over is @ 1.85 and the Under is @ 1.94. Easy pass on goals.
Chelsea Summary
On the back of a deserved yet narrow 1-0 win over a big rival club Leeds on the weekend, the mood around Chelsea is improved coming into this second leg.
However, the overall sense is still a negative one over how below expectations Chelsea are this season.
It is not overly dramatic to say that the Champions League is the only competition where they can turn this disaster of a season into a success, should they go on to make the final and win it.
The morale and confidence is questionable and a narrow win over a relegation threatened club wont have fixed much for the under pressure Graham Potter.
There are conflicting rumours about just how much pressure the ex-Brighton boss is. The widespread one is that the owner is loyal to him.
If results including losing this continue to disappoint, its difficult to see him lasting much longer.
It would help Potter’s case if they got at least to the semi-final of the UCL. This is a massive game for the club and him and crucially, the strong held view is that every player will give their best for this particularly match.
Its important to note that even if the players do not respect him, they most certainly respect the UCL, and will reserve their best individual performances for these games.
Looking at team news now for Chelsea, where their most significant definite absence is Tiago Silva.
The veteran Brazilian’s absence has further underlined the strange decision by Potter not to inscribe Badiashille for this competition last month.
Reece James is unquestionably their key man however, and he is around a 50/50 doubt due to a thigh injury.
If James begins then Chelsea’s chances improve notably. If he is out then their price will drift several ticks.
Chelsea don’t really consider Mason Mount a key player as once he was, but his suspension will again, test the strength of the squad if they are chasing a goal to win or save this tie.
Broja, Pulisic, and Kante remain out, the latter the only one which may be considered a regular in his best form.
Dortmund Summary
Dortmund are in sensational form and have not lost a competitive game since November.
Dortmund’s record in England doesn’t make for reading as positive as their form. The German club have lost on their last five trips there.
The Coach Edin Terzić will not be bothered too much by that kind of stat as their morale and form is inspiring.
2023 is Dortmund’s best-ever calendar year so far, winning all ten matches. This included a weekend 2-1 win over RB Leipzig.
Looking at team news now for the visitors, who are missing almost as many players as the host Chelsea.
Dortmund are unable to call on Ryerson due to a suspension for the second leg.
Karim Adeyemi is the latest player to join the injury list.
They will also be missing Kamara, Duranvile, Gobel, Malen, Bauza, and Moukoko.
