Bristol City vs Man City – Betting Preview

Nigel Pearson and Bristol City have been playing in a winter wonderland in the FA Cup and Championship as the weather heats up; they are still unbeaten since losing 2-0 to West Brom at home in the Christmas Day round of games!

Bristol City Preview

Since that depressing home loss, Bristol City has gone undefeated in their last 12 games across all competitions. This includes a replay victory over Swansea City in the FA Cup third round, followed by a 3-0 victory over West Brom on January 28 thanks to a brace from Sam Bell and a goal from the highly regarded Alex Scott.

Bristol City has not managed to advance to the quarterfinals since all the way back in 1974, losing to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sheffield United at this stage in 2018-19 and 2020-21, respectively.

They have continued their pattern of reaching the third round then the fifth round in consecutive seasons, a sequence they have followed since 2017-18.

Although the 13th-placed Robins’ chances of making the playoffs in the Championship seem a little remote, their weekend victory over Hull City kept them in the top half of the standings.

Nahki Wells, who came off the bench, scored the game’s lone goal from the penalty spot in the 70th minute to seal the victory.

Man City Preview

The most superstitious Man City fans may not be too discouraged by this result, given Leeds United, the last team to lose an FA Cup fifth-round match against Bristol City in 1973-74, went on to win the top-flight championship.

Man City advanced to Tuesday’s match courtesy to Nathan Ake’s goal against the Gunners in the fourth round, but Guardiola won’t be considering the odds given that his team is still playing catch-up to Arsenal in the Premier League.

Chelsea lost to the Citizens’ dominance in the FA Cup this season as well, but Guardiola only has the 2018-19 title to show for his tenure as manager thus far after watching his team lose heartbreaking semi-final matches in each of the previous three seasons.
