Crystal Palace have had a decent start to life under new manager Patrick Viera. The Eagles are currently placed at tenth in the 2021-22 Premier League standings with 15 points from their 11 games. They have been unbeaten in the last six games and even beat Manchester City 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium a couple of weeks ago. Conor Gallagher was the star of that match for Patrick Viera’s men, scoring a brace with a goal in each half to seal the win for them. They have had a great defense, and have conceded just 14 goals, and have scored 15 goals as well. Gallagher has been their best player this season with four goals and two assists to his name. In this post, we will take a look at some of the attacking stats produced by him in the Premier League this season.
The above viz shows the attacking dashboard of talented young midfielder Gallagher. He is on loan from Chelsea at Crystal Palace and has shown great signs of development this season. The black line in the above viz shows the average for the particular stat for all midfielders in the Premier League. It can be seen that Gallagher has produced much better-than-average stats and has been one of the best midfielders this season.
The above viz is the passing dashboard for the 21-year-old Chelsea academy graduate, which shows that he has been good with the stats like assists and xA generation. He has been below average in stats like the number of passes due to his position and his team’s playing style. Gallagher was at West Brom on loan the previous season, where he scored only twice in 32 appearances. Here, he has had a much better start under Patrick Viera and will hope to put in a much better season this time to finally make his way into the Chelsea first team.
The English midfielder’s shot map shows that he is a proper midfielder who likes to take shots from outside the box and also likes to arrive late into the box to score goals. He has already scored four this season, with one from outside the box and three from inside. His Player-of-the-match performance against Man City, where he scored a brace against them at the Etihad, will be remembered by Crystal Palace fans forever.
Gallagher’s heat map shows that he runs a lot and is on route to becoming a great box-to-box midfielder. He has been playing on the right side at times, but has shown great talent as a central midfielder, sometimes arriving late into the box to score goals like his idol Frank Lampard.
Patrick Viera will have to make use of this talent at his hands for this season, while the young Englishman will see this as an opportunity to showcase his talent and get into the Chelsea first team in the coming seasons.
